Our Shoot Schedule!

This table is indicating what our plan's are for the next week, what dates we plan to film and so on. I will be updating this a long the duration of the filming down to the editing, to keep up to date with timings and also by keeping a log of how and what we've done.

Meeting 4!

Lighting Workshop!

To guide us on filming a music video of our own, we were lucky enough to receive a workshop on lighting, to make sure that we had perfect and clear lighting throughout our music video as we were attempting to make it look professional.
Some of the skills we learnt were:
- 3 Point Lighting (Key,Back &Fill Lighting)
- 4 Point Lighting (Key,Back, Fill &Background Lighting)
- How to use the Lighting box & move the lights to the correct angle.
- How to create different moods.

1)Key Light                                  2)Back Light                            3)Fill Light
Key Light: This is the main light, the strongest light which highlights one side of the face and shadows the other side of the face to create effect.
Fill Light: This light is used to fill in the shadows created by the key light as it is based opposite to the key light. This fill light will be a softer light compared to the key light.
Back Light: This light is mainly used to highlight the subjects outline, as it is placed in rear. The whole point of the back light is to differentiate the subject with the background.

Phillip Bloom!

Philip Bloom
-Born on May 20th 1971.
-Known for his film making whilst combining with his passions of cinematography & travel.
-Known also for his DSLR Filmmaking & Cinematography.
-He started his filmmaking career when he worked for Sky as a travelling cameraman.
-He started a trend of using social networking websites after he posted video diaries of his daily work.
-He is known for his experimental uses on vimeo by creating personal films which take in the format of a music video/short film.

I thought using Philip Boom would be usefu as he is an experienced icon that has created similar project which I am currently producing. In addition, he does tutorials on the different equipment he uses, which realy interested me as he used some of the equipment I'm using at the moment.
For example, at the moment I am learning to use the Canon 5D to hep take the pictures for my digipak and magazine advert. Therefore I searched on Philip Bloom's website and came across this video he made:

Casting Video!

Prior to choosing roles for our music video, we decided to held a variety of auditions to find the right person to play the role of our protagnoist character and our artist. The advantages of holding these auditions is that we got the chance to meet various people with different sounds, as well as to see how they portrayed their personality through their singing and acting.

Lip Syncing Practice!

This is my practice lip sync as you can see...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9brSrFGYG-0 - This is riham's practice lip sync.
To help with the preparation of our music video, we decided to do a practice lip sync of the first part of the song. Both me and riham did a take on it to see who was the better one at the lip syncing, and we decided to go with riham as she did better on the lip sync and mine was out of sync at the beginning.

Animatic!

To present my storyboard in a much more creative way compared to a standard paper based storyboard, I came across a unique thing called 'Animatic', where as animated version of my storyboard was created.
To help get a feel of how it could be created, I looked up a tutorial on YouTube, which helped me to understand step by step on how to produce my moving storyboard.

Using this It helped me to make my own:

Our Music Video Ideas!

Inital Ideas/Proposal!

Once we chose our song, we came up with initial ideas which we thought would be well suited to the lyrics of song. Some of the ideas included:
Storyline 1 (REJECTED): The girl would be based in a school, where she was excluded from people as she was seen as the school 'nerd'. It would show different things she went through such as bullying, being a 'loser', never being apart of a time etc. The whole point  of this storyline was to show the comparison with the girl getting bullied and the girl she wanted to be. For example, the smart, popular girl in the school.

Storyline 2 (REJECTED): We thought that we wouldn't do a storyline, that we would just show clips (flashbacks) from her present state to her past, to show the comparison between her two lives.

Why were they rejected?
They were rejected as 'Storyline 1' was too similar to the current official video of the song, therefore we could not be allowed to do that, as it would definitely reduce our grade. We had to make our music video opposite to what the official video looked like.
'Storyline 2' was too basic, as it didn't allow our creativity shine as well as our editing skills, therefore we ruled this idea out.

Meeting 3

The Meaning Of Lyrics

I did some research into what the song actually meant to some people, therefore I looked into different forum's to print screen some comments, on what the reaction to the song was. If you look above, you'll see how the song related to some individuals, using this I created my own lyric set of meanings below.

To help with creating my music video, I created a lyric set of the meaning of the lyrics. By doing this, it will help me to define the song and to make it my own. I looked into what other's thought the definition of the song was, therefore I looked into the lyrics and wrote what I personally thought the song meant.

Permission!

Before getting too comfortable with doing a music video for "Don't Let Me Get Me", I had to e-mail the record label that produced the song, to ask for permission to use the song for my project. Therefore, I sent them an e-mail declaring exactly what I was planning to do with the song.

Rejected Songs

Florence and the Machine - I'm Not Calling You A Liar
The reason why we rejected this song, was due to the fact that it would be too difficult to find the right instruments to film. However even more than that, we found the tempo of the song to be too slow for us to edit and film. Even though we both really liked the song, there were too many cons to making a video for this particular song.

P!NK - Stupid Girls
The reason to why we rejected this song too, was because of the quality and quantity of the video. We felt that the song was good however it would be too out of our depth to produce another video for it . Also we felt that the lyrics were very literal meaning that we wouldn't of been able to change around the theme's and concept of the song as the lyrics said everything that was meant to be done.

Chosen Song!

Pink - Don't Let Me Get Me

Why did we chose this song?
The reason why we ended up deciding on this song as our music video was mainly based on the artist -P!NK.
She has become a worldwide pop rock star, who has a unique sense of style which stands out compared to all the other pop/rock singers around today.
At 31, she has created 8 Album's, 3 Live DVD's as well as her singing career, she has taken upon acting in 7 films that have and are to be hitting our screens.
The lyrics to her song, can represent different situations in people's life, therefore we thought we could tackle an issue of today through her lyrics. She is seen as an idol in many people's eyes, and her lyrics reach out to many, as she puts her own experiences into her songs.
